Comets win two games

The Waupaca baseball team picked up recent Eastern Valley Conference wins over Ripon and Berlin.

The Comets handed Ripon a 9-2 defeat May 21 and beat Berlin 14-3 May 18.

Waupaca 9, Ripon 2

RIPON - The Comets added to their 3-2 lead with six runs in the seventh inning.

Aaron Gooch had three of Waupaca's nine hits, while Josh Houtman added a pair and Seth Deuman picked up the win on the mound.

Waupaca 14, Berlin 3 (5 inn.)

BERLIN - Waupaca came up with five runs in the first inning and scored in every other inning to get the win on the Indians' home field.

Beau Ash and Jake Reedy had three hits and a pair of RBIs for Waupaca, while Gooch finished with two hits.

Kevin Moe picked up the win on the mound.

Waupaca hosted Ripon Tuesday, May 22, and will wrap up the regular season at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, May 24) with a rescheduled nonconference home game with Hortonville.

Waupaca will open state tournament play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Appleton East in a Division 1 regional semifinal.

Waupaca is a No. 10 seed, while the Patriots are seeded seventh. The winner will play at No. 2 De Pere at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31.
