Dance team heading back to state
Waupaca High School's dance team is heading back to state.
The 18-member squad qualified for the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches Association's state competition by placing first in Division 3 Pom and Division 2 Jazz Saturday, Jan. 28, at a regional competition at Oshkosh North High School.
The state competition is slated for Saturday, Feb. 4, at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse. Waupaca is scheduled to perform its Pom routine at 9:49 a.m. and its Jazz routine at 1:24 p.m.
The team, coached by Amy Marcom, placed third in Division 2 Jazz and fourth in Division 3 Pom at last year's state competition.
Team members include seniors Mackenzie Loken, Cassidy Neuville, Celina Parra, Karissa Smith and Tate Walkush; juniors Haley Johnson, Emma Kelley, Becca Reeves and Kika Udoni; sophomores Courtney Bloom, McKenna Gustke, Courtney Jungers, Abby Paynter and Aubrey Schroeder; and freshmen Diana Chu, Emily Cummings, Alexa Johnson and Kelsie Krawczyk.
