Errors hurt T-Birds in loss to Amherst

Nine errors hurt the Iola-Scandinavia baseball team Monday, May 14, in a 7-2 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference loss to Amherst.

Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds picked up an 11-7 win Saturday, May 12, over Wild Rose, defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood 14-6 Friday, May 11, and handed Manawa a 6-2 defeat Thursday, May 10.

Amherst 7, I-S 2

AMHERST - The game stayed scoreless until the fourth inning, as Amherst picked up a run before adding four more in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Zach Gauerke and Hunter Gruenwald had two of the T-Birds' five hits.

I-S 11, Wild Rose 7

WILD ROSE - Wild Rose scored four runs in the third inning, but the T-Birds answered with four of their own in the fourth before adding three more in the sixth and two in the seventh.

I-S 14, W-B 6 (9 inn.)

WITTENBERG - An eight-run ninth inning helped the T-Birds knock off the Chargers.

The teams went into extra innings tied at 6-6 after the Chargers came up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

W-B then loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth, but didn't score.

Jon Prahl had five of the T-Birds' 15 hits and scored three runs, while Spencer Erickson had two hits and scored twice.

Gauerke picked up the win on the mound as I-S improved to 8-5 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

I-S 6, Manawa 2

MANAWA - Dylan Olson had two hits and drove in three runs, Brady Huettner added three hits and D.J. Loken picked up the win on the mound with a three-hitter.

The T-Birds will finish the regular season at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, May 17) by hosting Shiocton.
