A 33-12 advantage in the second half helped Amherst knock off Iola-Scandinavia 54-28 Friday, Dec. 16, in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference boys' basketball matchup.
I-S also fell to Shiocton 67-51 Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Amherst 54, I-S 28
AMHERST - The Falcons led by only six at the break after outscoring the Thunderbirds 15-11 in the first quarter and 6-5 in the second.
Amherst then outscored the visitors 18-7 in the third quarter and 15-5 over the final eight minutes.
Connor Lodewegen led the T-Birds with 11 points, while Steve Maves led Amherst with 15.
Shiocton 67, I-S 51
IOLA - The T-Birds didn't have an answer for the Chiefs' Levi Singler, who scored 10 of his game-high 13 points in the second quarter.
Shiocton trailed 15-14 after one quarter, but outscored the T-Birds 19-14 in the second to take a 33-29 lead at the break.
The Chiefs then outscored I-S 14-9 in the third quarter and 20-13 in the fourth.
Jordan Beyersdorf and Bradly Hardel led the T-Birds with 13 points each. Riley Van Asten and Talon Heinemeyer also finished in double figures for Shiocton with 17 and 10 points, respectively.
The T-Birds traveled to Mosinee Tuesday, Dec. 20, for a nonconference game with Wisconsin Valley Lutheran and will play in a tournament Thursday and Friday, Dec. 29-30, at Owen-Withee. I-S will face Stratford at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 29 before taking on Owen-Withee at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 30.
