Indians pick up win over Manawa, fall to Truckers

An up-and-down season continued for the Weyauwega-Fremont boys' basketball team with a win over Manawa and a loss to Clintonville.

The Indians handed Manawa a 61-43 defeat Friday, Jan. 20, in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference matchup and came out on the short end of a 65-42 score three days earlier against the Truckers.

MANAWA - Balanced scoring helped the Indians improve to 3-4 in conference play and 4-9 overall.

W-F led 15-10 after one quarter, 29-18 at halftime and 45-26 after three quarters before Manawa had a 17-16 advantage over the final eight minutes.

Tanner Ross scored seven of his 13 points in the third quarter and shared scoring honors with teammate Wes Alix, while Bryce Behn chipped in with 12.

Clintonville 65, W-F 42

WEYAUWEGA - The fourth quarter turned out to be the difference in the game, as the Truckers outscored the Indians 22-6.

The Indians led 15-11 after one quarter, but the Truckers led 27-25 at halftime and had a 16-11 advantage in the third quarter.

Ross and Treg DeSantis led the Indians with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Jesse Brauer led Clintonville with 17 points and John Schultz chipped in with 10.

The Indians began the second round of conference play Tuesday, Jan. 24, by hosting Amherst and will host Wittenberg-Birnamwood tonight (Thursday, Jan. 26). W-F will also host Laconia Tuesday, Jan. 31.
