The Iola-Scandinavia girls' basketball team couldn't overcome a seven-point halftime deficit in its season opener and fell to Wild Rose 38-31.
The host Wildcats outscored the Thunderbirds 15-9 in the first quarter Friday, Dec. 2, and led 27-20 at halftime. Both teams scored 11 points in the second half.
Brooke Phillips led the T-Birds with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Emily Sether added six points, four rebounds and two assists; Karina Welch chipped in with six points; and Jane Oligney added five rebounds.
The T-Birds traveled to Auburndale Tuesday, Dec. 6, and will head to Shiocton Tuesday, Dec. 13, for the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference opener. The home opener against Amherst is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 16.
