Lady Bulldogs trounce Irish, Spartans
The Lady Bulldog basketball team moved to 14-0 with wins over Freedom and Luxemburg-Casco last week.
New London 53, Freedom 30
The Bulldogs trailed the Irish 10-12 after one quarter but outscored their opponent 19-4 in the second frame to take the lead for good. New London outscored Freedom 10-1 in the third quarter and 14-13 in the final period to earn the 53-30 victory.
Bridget Pethke had 14 points, while Tara Knapstein added 11 and Brenna Heise scored 10. Emily Steffanus chipped in five, while Paige Schlieve scored four and Michaela Roland dropped in three. Coral Managan, Heather Paalman and Morgan Steinert all scored two points.
New London 72, Luxemburg-Casco 46
New London led 25-11 after one quarter and 41-18 at halftime. They kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring the Spartans 31-28. At the final horn, New London had posted a convincing 72-46 win.
Knapstein scored 21 points, while Steffanus added 13 and Heise had 12. Steinert added nine, while Paalman scored six and Pethke had five. Managan and Schlieve both scored three.
The Lady Bulldogs play at home on Thursday, Feb. 9. Opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
