Lady Wolves drop first two conference games
The Lady Wolves basketball team opened the conference portion to their season last week. Playing both games on the road, they dropped a 67-21 verdict to Bonduel on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and a 35-28 decision to Stevens Point Pacelli on Friday, Dec. 16.
The Lady Bears were aggressive on both ends of the floor as they attacked the basket and pushed the ball up the floor. They opened the game with the first 13 points and also forced 13 turnovers. Manawa turned the ball over a total of 35 times and managed only a frigid 11 of 40 shots from the floor.
Bonduel senior guard Morgan Maule totaled 11 of the first 13 points of the game before junior Ansley Block's three pointer ended Manawa's drought with 14 seconds left in the quarter.
The Bears lead would reach 15 at 21-6 with 5:42 left in the first half, forcing coach Jeremy Hanson to call a timeout. Following the timeout the Lady Wolves settled down and matched the Bears point for point before a 6-0 run upped Bonduel's lead to 32-11 with only 25 seconds in the half.
Block's basket at the 6:52 juncture would turn out to be the only basket of the third quarter for Manawa, as Bonduel finished the quarter with a 20-0 run. Junior Taylor Rusch knocked down six points during the run as the Bears held a commanding 54-14 lead.
Krista Braun led Manawa with seven points and Block finished with five points.
The Pacelli Cardinals have finished in the basement the past three years but turned the tide on the Lady Wolves with Marisa Rice leading the Cardinals to the victory with 20 points. Braun led the Lady Wolves with 11 points, while Paige Schernercker added 6.
The Lady Cardinals forced 23 turnovers and Manawa to eight field goals on 34 attempts.
The Lady wolves venture to Tigerton on Thursday night to close out the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule.
