Navarino Nature Center News
The Navarino Nature Center received a grant from the Pamida Foundation through the store in Clintonville. This grant is to start a 'WILD packs' program at Navarino.
What is a WILD pack? It is a backpack that visitors and groups can check out for the day when visiting Navarino.
Each backpack will include binoculars, magnifying glass, small identification booklets and other items. This will provide visitors with the tools to explore and get more in touch with the Navarino Wildlife Area, as many families and visitors do not have their own wildlife observation equipment. The
WILD packs should be ready for check out just in time for the snowshoe and ski seasons, which is a great time to look for tracks and wildlife.
Project Feeder Watch starts Nov. 15
The nature center is again participating in Project Feeder Watch for 2011 - 12. The first feeder watch date this season will be Tuesday, Nov. 15 at NNC from 9 to Noon. Anyone is welcome to join in and learn the birds and calls, we always put a coffee pot on and have interesting conversation. We will decide on Nov. 15 count what days and times work best for everyone that is interested to attend. The birds normally are at the feeders from 9 to 11 am, then leave to come back for the afternoon shift from 2 - 4 p.m. Tim Ewing, Director / Naturalist, has reworked the feeding area, repaired / replaced feeders and tried to outsmart the squirrels, so if you're interested come out and enjoy the fun of counting our small feathered friends.
