Swimmers win triangular
The Iola-Scandinavia swim team came out on top of a three-team meet June 23 with Brillion and Seymour at the I-S Community Fitness & Aquatic Center.
"Although Seymour only brought a few swimmers, Brillion had a nice-sized team and gave us some excellent competition," coach Dick Wright said. "We have a large, strong team and that depth always helps us."
Cassidy Kostuch, Matthew Glodowski, Alexa Shulfer, Sara Breed and Amber Sperl led the 8-and-under group. Kostuch and Glodowski won three races, while the others had three top-five finishes.
Elisabeth Sullivan and Ana Holder topped the 9-10 group by winning three races and anchoring winning relay teams.
Katherine Leaf, Dylan Kostuch, Nathan and Nolan Struble led the 11-12 group. Leaf had four first-place finishes, while Kostuch and the Struble twins each racked up three top-five finishes.
Mitch Glodowski, Jakob Struble and Jessica Faldet led the 13- and 14-year-olds. Glodowski won four races and Struble and Faldet chipped in with three top-three finishes each.
John Faldet, Powers Spees, Zach Shulfer and Morgan Glodowski led the 15-18 group by winning most of their individual events and both relays.
"This was another nice meet for us," Wright said. "We had 51 of our swimmers attend, including some of our youngest for their first meet. The kids all swam very well again."
Leaf and Spees shared Swimmer of the Meet honors.
The Thunderbirds do not have a meet this weekend, but will host Stevens Point, Marshfield and Marathon Saturday, July 7 before heading to Plymouth Saturday, July 14, for a big invitational.
