T-Bird girls split pair of games

A cold shooting night hurt the Iola-Scandinavia girls' basketball team against Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

The Chargers held the Thunderbirds to 10 field goals Friday, Jan. 20, in a 64-33 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win. The T-Birds also handed Stratford a 42-41 nonconference loss Tuesday, Jan. 17.

W-B 64, I-S 33

The Chargers outscored the T-Birds 20-4 in the first quarter and led 36-13 at halftime and 49-18 after three quarters.

Elle Maus and Paige Berg led I-S with nine and seven points, respectively. Maus and Emily Sether also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

I-S 42, Stratford 41

The T-Birds led 12-8 after one quarter, 25-22 at halftime and 33-32 after three quarters.

Karina Welch led I-S with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Brooke Phillips added 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Maus finished with seven points, five rebounds and two assists and Kylie Johnson added seven points and three assists.

The T-Birds played Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Stevens Point Pacelli and will host Shiocton Friday, Jan. 27.
