Thunderbird girls notch first win on the road
The Iola-Scandinavia girls' basketball team picked up its first win of the season over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran.
The T-Birds defeated the Wolves 47-24 Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Mosinee.
WVL outscored the T-Birds 9-6 in the first quarter, but I-S answered with a 14-3 advantage over the next eight minutes to take a 20-12 halftime lead. The T-Birds then outscored the Wolves 13-7 in the third quarter and 14-5 in the fourth.
Brooke Phillips led the T-Birds with a team-high 18 points, eight rebounds and six steals, while Paige Berg chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds and Emily Sether added nine points, six rebounds and five steals.
I-S also outrebounded the Wolves 34-24 and turned the ball over only 12 times.
The T-Birds will play at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption at 5:45 tonight (Thursday, Dec. 29) before heading to Tigerton Tuesday, Jan. 3.
