Truckers beat Irish 1-0
The Trucker boys soccer team ended the regular season last Thursday with a conference matchup with Freedom's Irish.
The Truckers bested the rival Irish with an extremely exciting 1-0 final. The Truckers lone goal was an unassisted effort by junior mid-fielder Austin Paisar at the 7:18 mark in the first period. Paisar's blast from just inside the 18 yard line beat the Irish goalie on the wide side, and energized the Clintonville crew.
The match settled in to a defensive struggle, with much of the action occurring in the middle of the field. Trucker forwards Connor Gehrke and Dominic Masiarchin had good opportunities throughout the contest, but could not push the advantage to a second goals.
The Trucker defense was stifling. Led by senior sweeper Keaton Anderson, the young Clintonville defense limited Freedom to five shots on goal for the game. Goalie Connor Ford recorded his sixth shutout of the season. Heading in to the Regional Tournament, the Truckers won three out of their last four games, only losing to perennial power Fox Valley Lutheran.
"Since changing our defensive structure, we have played much, much better. Keaton Anderson continues to show that he is worthy of All-Conference consideration. With his leadership, our freshman-dominated defense has improved at a steady rate; and allows our mid-field play to be more aggressive," said Coach Roger Lupien. "We are certainly playing our best soccer of the season, and look forward to the state tournament."
