Trucks top Indians in conference opener
The Truckers jumped out to a 13-5 lead over the Berlin Indians after one quarter and stretched their lead to 20-7 at halftime, helping them cruise to a 49-39 win on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Berlin outscored the Truckers 14-12 in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth quarter, but the Trucker lead was never in serious danger.
Xavier Fletcher scored 18 points to lead the Truckers, while Tyler Sawall added 10. Jesse Brauer scored six, while Aaron Ziemer and Mike Fisher each added four. Aaron Schmidt tallied three points and Kolin Kubitz and Adam Weatherwax each scored a pair.
The Truckers shot 20-42 from the floor (47 percent); and eight of 11 from the free throw line (72 percent). The team pulled down 10 offensive rebounds and 17 defensive rebounds, while notching 13 assists, 12 steals and two blocks. The Trucks committed 17 turnovers.
Ripon 56, Clintonville 53
The Tigers outscored the Truckers 13-11 in the opening frame, but Clintonville battled back to take a 27-23 lead into halftime.
Ripon took the lead after outscoring Clintonville 12-7 in the third quarter, and a high-scoring fourth quarter saw the Tigers outscore the Truckers 21-19 to earn the 56-53 victory.
John Schultz led the Truckers with 21 points, making five of nine 3-point shots. Sawall added 12 points, while Schmidt scored seven. Brauer added five points and seven assists, while Fisher dropped in three. Ziemer added two, as did Weatherwax. Kubitz tallied one point.
The Truckers shot 19 of 48 (39 percent) from the field and 8 of 26 (30 percent) from 3-point range. Clintonville made 7 of 12 (58 percent) of their free throws. The team pulled down 27 rebounds and had six steals while committing 11 turnovers.
The team will play at home on Dec. 12 against Freedom. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
