Trucks win one, lose two
The Trucker varsity baseball team lost to Winneconne and Little Chute early last week, but came back last Friday to beat Winneconne in the second meeting of the two teams.
Winneconne 6, Clintonville 5
In a great baseball game, Clintonville lost in nine innings. Austin Paisar threw the first six innings giving up 5 runs and Jansen VanDaalwyk pitched the final three innings taking the loss giving up an unearned run. Turner Doornink hit a 2-run homerun to tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clintonville kept battling but was unable to get the lead.
Doornink was a leading hitter, with a home run and two RBI. Jake VanAllen had a double for the Truckers.
Little Chute 4, Clintonville 3
VanDaalwyk pitched a complete game surrendering only three hits and striking out six batters. Little Chute scored all 4 of their runs due to errors committed by the Truckers. The Truckers were led in hitting with Paisar going 2x4, while Doornink hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Clintonville 9, Winneconne 5
Doornink stole the show in the Truckers final conference game of the season. He pitched six innings striking out five batters and allowing only three earned runs. Doornink also carried a big bat, belting two home runs in the game. He hit a 3-run shot in the first inning and a solo homer in the third inning to account for the first four Trucker runs. Mike Fisher also chipped in with a 2 RBI single in the fourth inning to give the Truckers all they would need for the victory. This ends the Truckers season with a 10-6 conference record in a very competitive league.
The Truckers also earned a 2-seed in their regional tournament where they will play host to the winner of Tomahawk and Northland Pines on May 29 at W.A. Olen Park. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
