W-F boys still searching for a win
The Weyauwega-Fremont boys' basketball team headed into 2012 still looking for its first win of the season.
The Indians dropped a pair of games Dec. 28-29 at the Wrightstown Invitational. Southern Door handed W-F a 55-46 loss Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the consolation game a day after Winnebago Lutheran picked up a 65-46 win in the opening round.
Southern Door 55, W-F 46
A 17-9 advantage in the second quarter helped the Eagles hold off the Indians.
W-F took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter, but trailed 28-22 at halftime. Aaron Schroeder gave the Indians a 22-20 lead late in the second quarter, but the Eagles closed out the half with an 8-0 run and never trailed again.
The Eagles led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter. The Indians went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 36-33 in the period, but never got any closer.
Tanner Ross led the Indians with 20 points, while Schroeder also finished in double figures with 10. Riley Bricco and Cal McCarty led the Eagles with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Winnebago Lutheran 65, W-F 46
The Indians trailed by 12 points at halftime and never recovered.
The Vikings led 19-13 after one quarter, 33-21 at halftime and 48-31 after three quarters.
Ross led W-F with 18 points, while Bryce Behn chipped in with 10. Joachim Oernbo led the Vikings with 25 points.
The Indians hosted Wisconsin Valley Lutheran Tuesday, Jan. 3, in nonconference action and will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play Friday, Jan. 6, at Stevens Point Pacelli. W-F will also host Iola-Scandinavia Tuesday, Jan. 10.
