W-F netters take third in CWC-8
The Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team wrapped up third place in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference Tuesday, Oct. 11, with a win over Shiocton.
The Indians took three of four games from the Chiefs. Shiocton took the first game 25-19, but W-F regrouped to win the next there, 25-21, 28-26, 25-23.
W-F finished behind Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Stevens Point Pacelli.
"The bench contributed a great deal to the success of the evening," coach Rena Tomaszewski said. "Megan Young and Lizzy Abhold made their varsity debut in the nail-biting third and fourth sets."
Team leaders included Sydney DeSantis (11 assists, 14 service points); Mariah Hulbert (13 assists, 10 service points); Bailey Kapitzke (four aces, nine kills, 16 service points); Teal Tomaszewski (38 service receptions, 31 digs, 13 service points); and Danielle Austreng (three block kills, eight kills).
Nicole Ritchie led Shiocton with 13 kills and 18 digs.
The Indians will open state tournament play Tuesday, Oct. 18. First-round pairings for the Indians and other area teams will be posted on www.waupacanow.com as soon as they become available.
