Wolves roll past Panthers
The Manawa Lady Wolves evened their season at 1-1 following their non-conference victory on Monday Dec., 5, as they rolled over Bowler 68-23. The Panthers whom were winless last season and picked to finish last in the CWC-10 conference proved no match for the Lady Wolves. They committed 33 turnovers and failed to score in double figures in any quarter.
The victory was the first for head coach Jeremy Hanson. Four players scored in double figures and all nine players scored for the Lady Wolves.
Senior Kali Draeger opened the scoring, with the Lady Wolves leading from start to finish. Dakota Rudesill put the Panthers on the board with 4:26 left in the opening quarter. Rudesill's basket turned out to be the Panthers only one of the quarter as the Lady Wolves finished the frame with 18 straight points. Sparked by nine turnovers and senior Aimee Drath's six points during that run they held a 20-2 lead after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was sluggish as Manawa turned the ball over seven times and Shelbi Olson's three-pointer finally ended the Panthers scoring drought of more than seven minutes. Manawa held a 30-9 halftime lead.
A 17-1 run to open the second half sealed the verdict as Draeger totaled six points and Krista Braun added four points. The Lady Wolves defense also forced 12 turnovers during the quarter.
Draeger led the scoring with 14 points, while Braun and Drath each chipped in with 12 points. Senior Nicole Pamperin came in off the bench to add 11 points. Senior Katrina Wilz totaled 13 rebounds and junior Ansley Block added eight rebounds.
On Friday, Dec. 16 the Lady Wolves travel to Stevens Point as they take on the Pacelli Cardinals.
