Wolves snatch win from Truckers
The Truckers and Wolves boys varsity basketball teams fought fiercely on Tuesday, Dec. 20, with both teams putting on a strong display of gamesmanship. Unfortunately, Clintonville came out on the short end of a 56-52 final score after two overtime periods.
Winneconne led 19-16 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime, but the Truckers battled back, outscoring Winneconne 11-10 in the third quarter and 10-5 in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
Both teams scored nine in the first overtime. The Wolves outlasted Clintonville in the second overtime, outscoring the Trucks 6-2.
Xavier Fletcher scored 20 to lead Clintonville, while John Schultz and Aaron Ziemer both scored eight. Jesse Brauer added six, while Aaron Schmidt, Adam Weatherwax, Kolin Kubitz, Tyler Sawall, and Nathaniel Krueger all scored two.
The Truckers made 20 of 58 shots (34 percent) from the field, and made just 4 of 23 (17 percent) shots from behind the 3-point arc. Clintonville made 8 of 16 (50 percent) from the free throw line.
Clintonville pulled down 45 rebounds and had 6 steals, but committed 21 turnovers.
The boys play at home on Thursday, Jan. 5, against Xavier. The opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
