Diamond Cats improve to 3-1

The American Legion Post 63 Diamond Cats defeated Wittenberg 9 to 5 in Central Wisconsin League Play, June 19 to improve their record to 3 wins and 1 loss on the season.

The second inning proved to be the difference as the Cats scored 7 runs on 3 hits, a walk and 2 hit batsmen. Wittenberg rallied for 4 runs in the fifth inning to put the score at 8-5, but would get no closer. Jesse Wiley got the win on the mound throwing 6 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, striking out 6 while walking 3. Austin Paiser pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Wiley had 3 RBI at the plate, while Paiser, Kevin Ignacio, and Justin Thebo drove in 2 runs apiece.

Earlier that day the Diamond Cats dropped the first game of the season to Bonduel 6-5. Post 63 led the entire game until Bonduel scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th. Starting pitcher Patrick Vandaalwyk went 6 1/3 innings scattering 8 hits, striking out 4 and allowing 4 runs. Jesse Wiley, pitching in relief took the loss. Collin Kowlwyk led Bonduel at the plate going 3 for 4. Wiley had a 2 run homerun and 3 RBI at the plate for the Cats. The team managed only 5 hits, drew 8 walks, and left 8 runners stranded.

Win over Marion/Tigerton

On June 17 the Diamond Cats beat Marion/Tigerton in extra innings 10-9. M/T scored 3 runs in the top of the first, but the Cats answered with 5 in their half of the inning. The game went back and forth, winding up tied at 8-8 at the end of seven innings. Marion Tigerton scored 1 run in the top of the eighth, but the Cats scored 2 in the bottom of the inning for the victory. Chase Stenson got the win on the mound pitching 5 innings, striking out 9, walking 4 and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Cody Reimer and Justin Reminger led M/T at the plate both going 3 for 4 on the night. Wiley was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. Jake Reimer, Justin Thebo, and Austin Paiser had 1 hit and 2 RBI apiece.
