Garden Walk donates to book festival

The 2010 Waupaca Area Garden Walk and Art Stroll raised $1,500 for the Waupaca Area Public Library. The annual summer event drew 350 gardeners, artists, volunteers and visitors.

“Proceeds will be used for our very first book festival, scheduled for Oct. 1-2. This wonderful event has a far-reaching impact on area children,” said children’s librarian Sue Abrahamson.

All students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will have an opportunity to hear children’s author Amy Krouse Rosenthal. They will each receive a coupon to attend the festival and enter into a drawing to win an autographed copy of the author’s book.

“This also draws the child’s immediate family into the literacy activity and offers them an opportunity to enjoy a day in downtown Waupaca,” Abrahamson said.

More information about the book festival can be found at www.waupacalibrary.org.

Shelly Christie, president of the Waupaca Area Garden Walk and Art Stroll, announced that Joanne Adkins would be stepping down after 10 years as the art coordinator for the event.

“The artists and their talent add a wonderful element to the gardens and we truly appreciate Joanne’s years of service,” Christie said.

Lorraine Sheehan will be the organization’s new art director.

The Waupaca Area Garden Walk and Art Stroll is a nonprofit organization seeking to bring together all that enjoy gardens and art. Each year proceeds go to different causes. Organizations that would like to be considered for proceeds in upcoming years or those who want to get involved in the Garden Walk organization may contact Christie at 715-256-4145.
