Scandinavia book club meets

The Scandinavia Public Library book club will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, to discuss the book Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

In this story, 90-year-old Jacob recounts the time he spent working in a second-rate Depression-era traveling circus, caring for its menagerie of beasts and falling in love with the wife of the schizophrenic animal trainer. Copies of this New York Times best-selling novel are available at the library or through the online catalog at www.infosoup.org.

Children ages 2 to 4 can attend Toddle Tales at the Scandinavia Public Library at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24. The theme is farm animals. Infants up to age 2 can attend Babygarten at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, and Thursday, Aug. 26. Both Toddle Tales and Babygarten use stories, songs and rhymes to strengthen the parent-child bond and build early literacy skills. These programs are each followed by a free play period, and older and younger siblings are welcome to attend, too.

For information on these and other programs at the Scandinavia Public Library, call 715-467-4636 or visit the website at www.scandinavialibrary.org.
