Nehring, Ned and Arlette

Ned and Arlette Nehring, of 905 N.E. First St., Marion, passed away suddenly, Thursday, August 26, 2010, as the result of an auto mobile accident at Marion, WI.

Ned Norman Nehring was born February 5, 1924 in the Town of Dupont, Waupaca County, and was the son of the late August and Emma (Christensen) Nehring. Following graduation from Marion High School, Ned served in WW 2, in the South Pacific area, as Sgt. in the US Army Air Force from 1944-1946. He was united in marriage to Arlette Sether on March 4, 1944 at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church, rural Iola, WI. Ned was employed by Utility Tool & Body, Clintonville, from 1946-1952, and worked for Marion State Bank, Marion for 50 years, from 1952-2002. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Marion, where he served as usher, Sunday school teacher, church council member, and choir member. Personal activities include cofounder of the Marion Minutemen Marching Band, Post 198 American Legion, servings past adjutant and past commander, VFW member, WW 2 Memorial Society, Marion Rotary Club, past-president, Waupaca County Bankers Association, past-president, Marion Advancement Association, and Marion Area Historical Society. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry (James) Klitz, Neenah, and Charlene (Harold) Helms, Shawano. The grandchildren are David (Jill) Klitz, Kevin (Stacie) Klitz, Brian (Terrie) Helms, and Karmen (Ted) Sommer; the great-grandchildren are Marty and Mason Helms, Gabriel and Angelene Klitz, Justin and Alison Sommer. Also survived by a brothers-in-law, Hollis Sether and Leo Johnson. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ned was preceded in death by two sisters, Verna Johnson, and Irene Krueger, a sister-in-law, Eileen Sether, and nephews, Donald Krueger and Kenneth Sether.
The former Arlette Virginia Sether was born September 9, 1921 in Waupaca County, and was the daughter of the late Martin and Aleda (Wesley) Sether. Following graduation from Iola High School, Arlette was united in marriage to Ned N. Nehring on March 4, 1944 at Hitterdahl Church, rural Iola, WI. She worked as a beautician at Mary Louise Beauty Salon, Waupaca, Ladyfair Beauty Salon, Marion, and was the manager of the Cinderella Beauty salon, for 13 years. Arlette also owned and operated the “The Sherry Shop” in Marion for 10 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Marion, where she served as Senior and Junior Choir Director, was a member of the sewing and quilting group, choir member, Jubilante Chimers, St. John Altar Guild, and St. John WELCA, past-president. Other interests included the American Legion Auxiliary, past-president, Marion Women’s Club, past-president, Marion City Hostess, Country Bridge Club, and last but not least, “The Round Table” at Steve & Mary’s Cafe, Marion. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry (James) Klitz, Neenah, and Charlene (Harold) Helms, Shawano. The grandchildren are David (Jill) Klitz, Kevin (Stacie) Klitz, Brian (Terrie) Helms, and Karmen (Ted) Sommer; the great-grandchildren are Marty and Mason Helms, Gabriel and Angelene Klitz, Justin and Alison Sommer. Also survived by a brother, Hollis Sether, Marion and a brother-in-law, Leo Johnson, Tigerton. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Arlette was preceded in death by three sisters-in-law, Verna Johnson, Irene Krueger, and Eileen Sether, and two nephews, Donald Krueger and Kenneth Sether. Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. Rev. Gisele Berninghaus officiated. Burial was in the Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion. Military graveside rites were provided by Post 198 American Legion, Marion. Friends called Sunday, August 29th from 4-8 P.M. at the BeiL-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville.
