Volleyball team splits conference matches

The Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team picked up a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win Sept. 9 over Bonduel, but came up short Sept. 7 in another conference match to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

The Indians dropped the first game to Bonduel 26-24, but rallied with 25-20, 25-14, 25-16 wins in the next three games.

Team leaders included Teal Tomaszewski with 27 digs; Dani Johnson with two solo blocks, three assists, seven aces, 10 kills and 14 service points; Rachel Knecht with 20 assists and eight kills; and Dani Austreng and Dacia Goetsch with eight kills.

W-F dropped the first game to the Chargers 25-21, came back to win the second 28-26 and lost the last two, 25-21, 25-14.

Leaders for the Indians included Bailey Kapitzke with nine kills; Knecht and Kate Wieters with 10 assists and four aces; Tomaszewski with 27 digs; and Johnson with three block kills.

“The girls are improving every day and are very determined to continue to improve through the season,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said.

The Indians played at Stevens Point Pacelli Tuesday, will host Iola-Scandinavia tonight (Thursday) and head to Appleton for Saturday’s Fox Valley Lutheran Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m.
