Cross, Virginia C.

Virginia “Ginger” C. Cross, Waupaca, WI, Age 91, died on September 24, 2010, at the Crystal River Nursing Facility in Waupaca. She was born on April 19, 1919, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Mae (Koch) Pratt. She married James A. Cross on January 29, 1944 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1988. Virginia is survived by her sons; Roger (Linda) Cross of Waupaca, and Raymond (Judy) Cross of Mililani, HI, and granddaughter; Stephanie Cross of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Virginia had attended the Bryant and Stratton Business College in Chicago. She next attended North Park College in Chicago, and completed her education with a degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. She had been the Human Resources Director for the Zenith Electronics Co. in Chicago, and then the Human Resources Director at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She had also been an editor for the Skokie Review newspaper in Skokie, IL for a number of years. Virginia first came to the Chain O’ Lakes in the Waupaca area with a college girlfriend in the late 1930’s. After visiting the lakes for several years, the Cross family purchased a cottage in 1964. She and James lived in their cottage until they moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1986. She returned to the Waupaca area in 2002. She dearly loved those with whom she socialized, and they all looked forward to her special Christmas dinner parties. Virginia was an avid Bridge player and she enjoyed playing golf. She also had a great fondness for dogs. Ginger’s radiant smile will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Marsha Thomas, officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Humane Society of Waupaca County in the name of Virginia “Ginger” Cross. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
