Lutheran Girl Pioneers Convention

Lutheran Girl Pioneers, a youth ministry involving over 2,300 girls, ages 5-16, in 144 different churches affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod scattered over 42 states and Canada, kicked off its biennial convention on Friday, September 10, 2010, with a special 7pm concert held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Onalaska, Wisconsin. 170 people attened the concert presented by Koine, a musical group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Koine began its concert by singing four songs that both complimented and emphasized the LGP’s convention theme of “FALL into LGP” through Faith, Action, Love, and Leadership. These special songs were followed by a good old-fashioned sing-a-long which culminated in a dozen children from the audience joining the group to sing a special arrangement of “I am Jesus’ Little Lamb” and “This Little Light of Mine”. Following the concert everyone was treated to refreshments in the church social hall. The convention itself began at 8:30am on Saturday, September 11, 2010 with an opening address by Rev. Norris Baumann, a National Pastoral Advisor, entitled “What It Means To Be Loyal To Christ” and based on Psalm 78:1-8. Following the 15 minute address, the 85 women and 28 girls in attendance dispersed to the first of their four pre-selected workshops on such subjects as Outdoor Cooking, Teaching Independent Living, Recruitment of Leaders, and Program Planning. Sandwiched in between the workshops was the actual biennial business meeting. The main items of business were the adoption of the budget for the next two years and elections. Those elected to serve on the National Council were Carol Gruelke from Hutisfor, WI, Christine Bohn from Wautoma, WI, Tami Jackan from Marshfield, WI Audrey Nowak from South Milwaukee, WI and Diana Widdifield from Orleans, Ontario, Canada. The convention concluded around 4pm with the installation of these new officers. Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1120 Evans Street in Waupaca, is holding the annual Kick-off Meeting for Registration on October 11, 2010 at 5:30pm.
