Dance Against Violence Sock Hop

The 6th Annual “Dance Against Violence Sock Hop” evening charity event sponsored by the non profit nIc Foundation will take place on Friday, Oct. 15, at the Wave Bar & Ballroom in Appleton, Wisconsin. (2350 N. Casaloma Drive next to the Timber Rattler’s ball park) Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A free swing dance lesson will be taught by the Jumpcats, Sue and Larry Kluball at 7 p.m. From 8 to midnight, dancing entertainment will be provided by the 50’s-60’s Bobby Rivers Band.

The evening charity event also includes outstanding raffle packages and silent auction items donated by Fox Valley area businesses; fun games; 50’s-60’s costume judging; hula hoop contest; a walk-in art gallery display; shopping at the nIc Store; and a table of free information including articles, pamphlets, resources, and take-home goodies for parents and families; and the opportunity to participate in the “one-minute” parent/family survey and receive free raffle tickets.

Raffle prizes include diamond jewelry; Miller welder; Door County get-away; fishing and camping packages; original artwork; digital camera; and much, much more. Raffle tickets are $5 per ticket or 3 tickets for $10. Raffle tickets are available at Lakeshore Auto in Clintonville; Island Tropics in Shawano; Buzz & Mac’s at the Cloverleaf Lakes; River’s Edge in New London; and the Wave Bar & Ballroom in Grand Chute.

The Dance Against Violence has a general $5 donation at the door. Children are welcomed when accompanied by their parents. Round table seating is available. Dress is 50’s-60’s style or casual attire.

Proceeds from the “Dance Against Violence” evening charity event support the nIc Foundation’s violence prevention educational initiatives in Northeastern Wisconsin. Some of the violence prevention initiatives include the “Building Character through Art” contest open to children in grades K-12; Project nIcvp4families (nIc violence prevention for families); Project nIcvp4kids (nIc violence prevention for kids character education); and National Crime Victims’ Rights Week ceremony on “Stopping Crime and Violence in Our Rural Communities.” (NCVRW)

The nIc Foundation is established in honor and memory of Nicolas Resch who suffered a violent and fatal assault in March of 2005 in the New London area. Nicolas graduated from Clintonville High School in 1995. The mission of the nIc Foundation is to encourage the positive character traits of nurturing, Integrity, and compassion through violence prevention education in Wisconsin.
