Cross country sectionals set

The road to state for eight area high school cross country teams begins Oct. 22 with sectional meets.

New London and Hortonville will compete Friday, Oct. 22, in the Division 1 Wausau West Sectional at Nine Mile Forest near Wausau.

Clintonville, Waupaca and Weyauwega-Fremont will head to the Division 2 Freedom Sectional Saturday, Oct. 23, at Irish Waters Golf Club near Freedom.

Marion, Iola-Scandinavia and Amherst are in the Division 3 Athens Sectional Oct. 22 at Erbach Park in Athens.

The Wausau West Sectional also includes Antigo, D.C. Everest, Marshfield, Merrill, Rhinelander, Shawano, Stevens Point, Wausau East, Wausau West and Wisconsin. The boys’ race is set for 4 p.m., with the girls’ race to follow at 4:45 p.m.

The Freedom Sectional also includes Colby/Abbotsford, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Green Bay Notre Dame, Lakeland, Marinette, Medford, Mosinee, Northland Pines, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Seymour, Tomahawk and Wittenberg-Birnamwood. The boys’ race will begin at 11 a.m., with the girls to follow at 11:45 a.m.

The Athens Sectional also includes Athens, Auburndale, Crandon, Edgar, Loyal/Greenwood, Marathon, Marshfield Columbus, New Auburn, Rosholt, Spencer, Stevens Point Pacelli, Stratford, Three Lakes and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. The boys’ race will begin at 4:15 p.m. and the girls will follow at 5 p.m.

First- and second-place teams and the top five individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state meet, slated for Saturday, Oct. 30, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
