Indians fall to SP Pacelli

Casey Haase rushed for a game-high 251 yards, but the Weyauwega-Fremont football team still came out on the short end of a 28-6 score Friday.

The Indians lost their Homecoming game to Stevens Point Pacelli.

Haase scored W-F’s only touchdown, a 67-yard run in the second quarter.

Pacelli opened the scoring with Andy Rice’s 8-yard pass to Kamen Klasinski in the first quarter. Rice later connected with Kelvin Stroik for a 35-yard score in the second quarter and Stroik added a 3-yard run to give the Cardinals a 21-6 halftime lead. Rice and Stroik combined for a 30-yard touchdown pass for the game’s final touchdown in the third quarter.

The Indians outgained the Cardinals 391-333. Haase accounted for 251 of W-F’s 350 rushing yards, but the Cardinals held the Indians to 41 passing yards. Pacelli picked off three passes and also recovered a pair of fumbles.

Haase led the Indians in tackles with 13, while Eric Keenan and Ben Fox added nine and Eric Jorgenson, Tommy Meehan and Brad Hanson chipped in with seven each.

“It was a good physical game,” coach Tom Chase said. “Pacelli made three big plays and that was the difference in the game. We had a great team effort in a loss to a very good Pacelli team.”

The Indians will play at Manawa at 7 p.m. Friday before wrapping up the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at home against Iola-Scandinavia.

W-F fell to 2-3 in Central Wisconsin 8 play and 4-3 overall with Friday’s loss and will need to win both games to qualify for the playoffs.
