Wega Arts wraps up summer season

Wega Arts wrapped up its summer season with a get together at the home of Cathy and Craig Smith.

The colors and vibrant streaks of sunlight on the pond were the background to delicious food – Italian hors doevres and pizza baked in a stone oven that the Smiths designed and built.

The party was a celebration of reaching the three-year mark. As we enter our fourth year, we look forward to our fourth calendar featuring art work from the kids who take the calendar class. The calendar is sponsored by M&I Bank.

We recently received our third grant. It is from the Waupaca Community Foundation. The grant is for a pottery show that we will present in the Gallery at the Gerold in June of 2011.

Las Vegas Nights was held with great success for the first time in August and will become an annual event. The focus this year was to raise funds so that we could continue the work begun by our dear friend Randy Walter, who started renovating the balcony shortly before he passed away.

Opening up and restoring the balcony is a big step toward bringing back the full beauty of the building.

This year also marked a series of presentations of independent films, including Mint Julep, Lucky Day, Ed Gein the Musical and Nonames. A series of Indies will also become an annual event.

We are planning a big concert with Annie Hughes and a combo for spring – date to be announced. As our dates become fixed we will announce them. Be sure to check the website: www.wegaarts.org.

The next event is the photography show featuring Trey Foerster, who has taken new pictures of our area for the event. The show opens with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8. Snacks, hot apple cider and beer will be provided to all those who come to meet the artist.
