Gunner’s and John’s team up on Camaro
Gunner’s Great Garage has completed its first project – a classic 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Sport Coupe.
This car was done in conjunction with John Diermeier, of John’s Custom Auto. Both of these businesses are located in rural Manawa.
Gunner’s offers mechanical restorations, sells automotive books and gifts, and does appraisals. John’s is an auto body repair business.
John Gunnell, the owner of Gunner’s Great Garage, helped with the sourcing of parts and the overall plan for the Camaro’s restoration. Diermeier’s shop handled the bodywork, paint and skilled installation of a new interior.
The car belongs to Laurie Fuller, of Franklin. The project was undertaken in memory of her husband and children, who died in an auto accident in California.
Fuller’s husband was a car enthusiast and race driver who started work on the silver-blue Camaro years ago.
Fuller previously had two other shops start on the project, but each of those times the job did not get done.
Her mother, Jane Dietz, of Manawa, contacted Gunnell in May and a plan to finish the car was developed.
Gunnell was able to get help from Classic Industries, of Huntington Beach, Calif., www.classicindustries.com. This well-known company donated needed interior kit parts to the effort, allowing Diermeier to redo the car inside and out at a price within Fuller’s budget.
