Trucker football season ends with loss to Winneconne

The Clintonville Truckers were shut out Thursday by the Winneconne Wolves in their final football game of the season, 35-0.

Four turnovers, three lost fumbles and an interception did the Truckers in against a very talented Winneconne team that finished 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the Eastern Valley Conference.

Meanwhile Clintonville finished its season at 3-6 overall and 3-5 in the Eastern Valley Conference.

Winneconne took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards in six plays to score. The Truckers held the Wolves to a fourth and goal, but couldn’t keep them out of the end zone. The extra point kick failed and the Wolves jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Clintonville then went three and out and punted the ball back to Winneconne. The Wolves marched down to the Clintonville three yard line where on fourth and three they elected to kick a field goal. However, the attempt was wide right.

The Truckers took possession on their own twenty yard line. Clintonville moved the ball all the way down to the Wolves 16-yard line before a penalty, a sack, and a fourth and long pass failed, turning the ball back over to Winneconne. The Wolves moved the ball 71 yards to score on a 17-yard pass. The extra point kick was good; Winneconne led 13-0.

The Truckers took the ensuing kickoff and drove down the field to the Winneconne 25 yard line before a fumble turned the ball back over to the Wolves. Winneconne drove back down to the Clintonville 29 yard line before they attempted a fake field goal that was stopped by the Truckers. Thus ended the first half; Winneconne 13, Clintonville 0.

Once again the Truckers moved the ball down the field only to have an illegal procedure penalty back them up and force fourth and long which they did not convert. Winneconne moved the ball down the field, aided by a late hit setting up a 12-yard run by Winneconne. The two point conversion was good; Winneconne 21, Clintonville 0. On the ensuing kickoff Winneconne drilled the ball off of a Clintonville player and recovered. Winneconne scored, then, on a 41-yard run. The point after kick was good; Winneconne 28, Clintonville 0.

On Clintonville’s next possession, the Truckers were intercepted, thus turning the ball over for the third time on the evening. Winneconne turned this into a five-yard run and the extra point was good to make it 35-0. With a running clock in effect in the second half because of the point differential, the Truckers could not mount a drive with the time remaining. And thus ended the Truckers bid at a playoff game.

For the game, the Truckers rushed 31 times for 141 yards; Winneconne rushed 45 times for 329 yards; Clintonville was 6 for 12 with one interception passing for 35 yards; Winneconne was 4 for 5 for 44 yards.
