Franklin Ferg, 84, died from burns received while tending a brush fire.
Police were called to Ferg’s home shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22. They found his body next to a tractor.
Investigators determined that Ferg had started a controlled burn of a brush pile on Thursday evening. He returned to tend the remains of the fire on Friday afternoon.
While removing a scrap of metal from the smoldering pile, Ferg’s clothing caught fire.
The Waupaca County deputy coroner pronounced Ferg dead at the scene of the accident.
