Busy weekend for Waupaca teams

Waupaca High School’s winter sports season will kick off Nov. 26-27 with hockey and girls’ basketball tournaments and the home opener for the boys’ basketball team.

The Comet hockey team will host Waunakee, Waukesha and Wisconsin Rapids at the Waupaca Expo Center, while the girls’ basketball team will host teams from New London, Merrill and Antigo.

Hockey games set for Friday, Nov. 26, are Waukesha junior varsity vs. Wisconsin Rapids JV, 2 p.m.; Waunakee JV vs. Waupaca JV, 6 p.m.; Waukesha vs. Wisconsin Rapids, 6 p.m.; and Waunakee vs. Waupaca, 8 p.m.

Games scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27, are Waunakee JV vs. Wisconsin Rapids JV, noon; Waukesha JV vs. Waupaca JV, 2 p.m.; Waunakee vs. Wisconsin Rapids, 4 p.m.; and Waukesha vs. Waupaca, 6 p.m.

Girls’ basketball games slated for Nov. 26 are New London vs. Merrill and New London JV vs. Waupaca JV, 5:45 p.m.; and Antigo vs. Waupaca, 7:15 p.m.

The schedule for Nov. 27 has the losing varsity teams playing each other and the losing JV team playing Antigo’s JV team at 2:15 p.m.; and the winning varsity teams playing each other and the winning JV team playing Merrill at 3:45 p.m.

Nov. 27 will be a busy day at the school, as the Comet boys’ basketball teams have nonconference home games with Denmark. The freshman and JV teams will tip off at 5:45 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at 7:15 p.m.
