Check Advance opens pawn shop in New London

With 43 locations in Wisconsin, parent company Valued Services opened their first pawn shop in the state on Nov. 8 in New London.

Divisional Sales Manager for Valued Services, Jo Ellen Robinson says New London is a great fit for this business. “We listened to our customers and expanded our services to accommodate their needs locally.”

The Check Advance store has been in New London for 12 years, offering payday loans, installment loans and Western Union services. Store Manager Ellen Eckhardt, along with the Sales Associate Jill Stiebs invite everyone to stop in.

Check Advance recently relocated to the London Plaza, located between Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart. The new location is much larger, making way for the new addition – a pawn shop. In addition, they buy gold and other precious metals.

Take in an item to pawn or sell outright and they are held for 30 days in order to be compliant with Wisconsin State Law. At the end of 30 days, items will be for sale.

“On a pawn loan, the item is used as collateral and returned to the person when the loan is paid,” explains Mike McNabb, the pawn manager.

For example, construction workers can bring in tools for cash through the winter and pick the tools back up in the spring, when business picks up. Televisions, cell phones, Play Station 3, Wiis, and cameras are other popular items to pawn.

A three month free layaway plan is available on items purchased at the pawn store. With a 20 percent down payment, the item will be held while you make payments to own the item.

“We’re starting to get a good inventory of items into the store, and items are available to purchase for Christmas presents,” says McNabb, who invites the public in to see the new store.

Find the Pawn Store at 1817 Shawano Ave., next to the Piggly Wiggly Store, or call 920-982-6809 with questions. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
