Kloehn, Geraldine

Geraldine Mae Kloehn (Geri), age 90, of New London, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. She was born on October 15, 1920, in the township of Hortonia, the middle child of Henry F. and Sylvia (Hunsicker) Knapp. Geri was baptized, confirmed and married at Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church, Hortonville. On November 30, 1940, she married Clarence A. Kloehn. They farmed in the township of Caledonia for 45 years. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and sewing for her children when younger and as the years passed, she enjoyed her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school, completing secretary school, singing in the choir and Ladies Aid activities – first at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Caledonia) and Zion Lutheran Church (Readfield). Geri enjoyed volunteering her time answering telephone for the senior center, delivering Meals on Wheels (Waupaca County, Caledonia and New London) for over 20 years. In 1970, she purchased H&R Block franchise and operated an office in New London until 1985. When she retired, she loved being able to spend her winters in Arizona. When health issues required her to forsake the longer traveling trips, she spent her winters closer to home and family. She is survived by her 7 children and 23 grandchildren: David (Sharon) Kloehn and their sons: Mark, Cory (Sabrina) and Joshua; John (Margie) Kloehn and their 3 children, Kelly (Joe) Rohan, Kim (Troy) Klement, and Patrick (Kari) Kloehn; LaVonne/Kelly (Denny) Becher, their 3 children, Lori (Homero Avila), Kathy (Anthony) Hagen, Paul (Tammy) Huebner and step-children, Andy & Joe Becher; Rodger Kloehn and his 3 children, Peter, James and Heidi (Juan) Angeles; Barbara (David) Meyer and 4 children, Jennifer (Joe) Grady, Jeremy (Nici) Meyer, Jessie (Ryan) Burns, and Jodie (Sean) Gunville; Bruce (Pam) Kloehn and their 3 children, Travis (Heather) Kloehn, Jennifer (Joel) Laubenstein and Jason Kloehn; Ann (Ron) Wege and step-children, Missi (Joe) Gerrits and Joel Wege. She was blessed with 28 great-grandchildren: Zach, Nicholas, and Seth Wehmeyer, Michael, Kyra and Kealy Klement, Peyton, Eli and Isaiah Kloehn, Israel (Issy) Avila, Alix, Garret and Tristan Hagen, Lance and Ellie Huebner, Lena Angeles, Taylor Kloehn, Benjamin and Katelyn Grady, Trent, Madeleine, Mason and Allison Kloehn, Miles and Stella Laubenstein, Zach Baehman and Lucas and Tyler Gerrits. A brother also survives Geri, Maynard Knapp. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elwin, his wife Eleanore, and a sister-in-law, Bernice Knapp. Funeral services for Geri were held on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Brian Hennig officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation was held at the church Friday after 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Geri’s name for Emanuel Lutheran Church and school.
