Tower not favored by Scandinavia Town Board

The construction of a 300-foot tower did not meet the approval of the Scandinavia Town Board at its Nov. 8 meeting.

Chairman Gary Marx reported that the Planning Commission discussed the request from the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to construct a tower on Sarah Adam’s property to replace the two towers currently on Marlyn Jacobson’s property.

The line of sight microwave tower project is being constructed under the direction of the DNR and would be only for government noncommercial use. Waupaca County must approve a conditional use permit and variance because the tower’s height exceeds the maximum outlined in the Waupaca County Zoning Ordinance.

The board agreed it is not in favor of the project at this time because of concern over the height exceeding ordinances and no agreement was made on the timing of the removal of the two old towers.

Frank P. Bauer Jr. was appointed to the town board as Supervisor I to fill the position being vacated by Donald Peterson. The appointment will take effect Jan. 1, 2011. Bauer will complete Peterson’s term of office until April 11, 2011.

The board approved making the final payment for the Scandinavia Fire Department’s new tanker truck. Fire Chief Dell Mork reported on the engine problems of the backup pumper truck. He stated that the fire department is willing to put $15,000 toward the purchase of a used backup pumper truck to replace the broken down one.

In other business the board:

?Adopted the Solid Waste Disposal Facility Licensing Ordinance.

?Agreed to charge $30 for new and replacement fire number signs effective with the approval of the Waupaca County Zoning Ordinance and the release of town’s zoning deputy on Oct. 11.

?Noted the town’s assessor authorized tax-exempt status for the Scandinavia Booster Club Inc. for Jorgen’s Park property.
