Butler, Bernice

Bernice Irene Berto Butler, of Amherst, age 91, went home to her heavenly father on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at her home. She was born on August 23, 1919 to the late George and Mary (Hopkins) Corrigan. She was married to Elmer J. Berto for 43 years and he passed away in December of 1980. They had three children, Jimmy, Judith and Joyce. Bernice lived in Mosinee, WI for a short time but otherwise was a life long resident of Amherst, she was involved with many community organizations, always lending a hand to help with everything and anything. Bernice retired from the WI Veterans Home in 1982. She enjoyed polka dancing, casinos and playing bingo. Bernice always put her family’s needs above her own, lived with and took care of her sister Mary for over 20 years. Mary passed away in March of 2010 at the age of 106. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Floistad and Joyce Arena, eight grandchildren: Denise, Lorie, Christy, Randy, Jimmy, Jody, Jeff, Joey and Sandy, great grandchildren: Brittany, Stephanie, Travis, Chrissy and Nadya, great great grandchildren: Jordan, James, Daytona and Hayli, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James E. Berto, grandson, Robert Floistad, son-in-law, Peter and three brothers, James, Lawrence and Walter, four sisters, Theresa, Mary, Gertrude and Gwendolyn, second husband, James Butler. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe on Hwy 54 between Waupaca and Plover. The visitation will be on Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
