Gymnasts open season with a win

The Trucker Gymnasts began their season with a win over Division 2 teams Medford and Mosinee with a score of 92.725. Medford took second with 83.65 and Mosinee third with 79.775.

Two varsity gymnasts placed first on three events. Freshman Rachel Wisneski lead the team on Uneven Bars (5.125) and Vault (7.8) and senior Brianne Mueller showed her experience on beam, by hitting her routine and scoring 6.325.

“Brianne kicked off her senior year with her highest score of her career. We’re excited to see what else she is capable of,” said Coach Sue Kenfield. Mueller also placed second with a score of 7.5 on vault.

Tisha Kenfield placed the highest (3rd) on floor with a 6.35. “Tisha included two passes with back handsprings for her first time performing this season,” said Kenfield. Wisneski placed fifth on the event with a 6.225 using some great jumps and tumbling. Wisneski and Kenfield tied for third on beam with 5.95, which was a great start for a difficult event.

Senior Liz Aceto is a returning letter winner on unevens. She placed fourth out of 13 gymnasts on that event. Wisneski took first on all-around (all four events), Kenfield took third, and Mueller fourth.

The JV teams did not have full teams but performed well on their events. Lyndsey Pelky, Alyssa Hammond, Kaise Aschliman and Josie Wait performed on beam for the first time. Aschliman placed fourth. Liz Aceto took second on floor.

“We had a good first meet. The team was able to deal with the normal jitters pretty well. The start of the season is always a little weak but our routines showed how hard the gymnasts have worked so far this season,” said Kenfield.

The teams’ next home meet is Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Longfellow Gym.
