Lakes group to discuss fisheries

The Friends of Mirror and Shadow Lakes will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Holly History and Genealogy Center.

Al Niebur, the area fisheries biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, will share information about the fisheries and habitat in Mirror and Shadow lakes. He will also make recommendations for the future management of the fisheries community.

In a recent citizen survey of local residents, fishing was identified as one of the top recreational activities on Mirror and Shadow lakes.

Respondents also expressed that they valued being able to fish on these lakes. However, some survey respondents suggested that the quality of fishing seems to have decreased over time.

Niebur will address whether or not changes in the fishery have occurred and, if so, what has changed.

The planning committee, professionals and any interested citizens will spend the remainder of the meeting outlining goals and actions items related to the fisheries in the Mirror and Shadow Lakes Management Plan.

Interested citizens are encouraged to participate in the Mirror and Shadow Lakes Management Planning Committee by contacting Carol Elvery at [email protected].

Presentations from the previous meetings and information about upcoming meetings can be found on the city’s website at www.cityofwaupaca.org. Click on the Government link and scroll down to Parks and Recreation, and then click on Friends of Mirror/Shadow Lakes.
