Petroske makes it to final

Waupaca’s wrestling team placed 13th Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Cutler Bulldog Classic in New London, two days after dropping an Eastern Valley Conference dual meet to Clintonville.

The Comets’ Levi Petroske made it to the 119-pound final, but dropped a 2-1 decision to Oshkosh North’s Zach Bruley.

Area wrestlers that placed in the top four are Jacob Chmielewski of Weyauwega-Fremont, first at 189; W-F’s Casey Haase, first at 215; New London’s Chad Anderson, first at 160; New London’s Trevor Strong, second at 215; New London’s Kevin Urban, third at 103; W-F’s Jared Gruetzmacher, third at 125; New London’s Andrew Ritchie, third at 285; and New London’s Jake Close, fourth at 112.

Clintonville 60, Waupaca 12

Dalton Stelzner (103), Petroske (119) and Kelly Lind (125) picked up wins for the Comets on the team’s annual Parents’ Night.

Stelzner defeated Cody Guyette 13-10, Petroske pinned Payton Dimick in 4:42 and Lind beat Dustin Zarnoth 4-3.

Thirty-six of the Truckers’ points came on forfeits at 112, 140, 171, 189, 215 and 285.

Clintonville also had wins from Ty Plumb (130), Jesse Huggins (135), Exavier Dimick (145), Derrick VonDeraa (152) and Jay Malliet (160).

Plumb defeated Cody Houtman 6-0, Huggins pinned Mitch Molder in 2:27, Dimick handed Brandon Palmer a 7-3 loss, VonDeraa pinned Brady Spaulding in 3:52 and Malliet pinned Marcus Lowe in 2:25.

Waupaca will head to Little Chute today (Thursday, Jan. 20) for a 5:30 p.m. EVC double dual before wrestling at Winneconne Thursday, Jan. 27.
