W-F girls keep pace with Bears, Falcons

Weyauwega-Fremont moved into a first-place tie with Amherst and Bonduel in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference girls’ basketball standings Friday, Jan. 21, with a 47-42 home win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

The Indians improved to 6-1 in league play with a win over the defending conference champions.

Both teams scored 12 points in the first quarter, but the Indians took a 23-20 into the locker room at halftime.

The Chargers cut into the lead with a 15-13 advantage in the third quarter, but W-F outscored the visitors 11-7 over the final eight minutes.

Danielle Johnson led W-F with 15 points, while Macey Schoenick and Mariah Hulbert chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively. Megan School led the Chargers with 10 points.

The Indians played at Bonduel Tuesday, Jan. 25, and will host Stevens Point Pacelli at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28. W-F will also host Gillett at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1.
