Truckers lose close games to Tigers, Foxes

The Clintonville Trucker varsity boys’ basketball team tried to avenge an overtime loss to Ripon earlier in the season, but came up just one point short on Tuesday, Jan. 25, as the Truckers lost 49-50 against the Tigers.

Clintonville led 27-20 at halftime, but the Tigers outscored the Truckers 18-11 in the third quarter and 12-11 in the fourth quarter to sneak away with the win.

Patrick VanDaalwyk scored 22 points to lead the Truckers. Xavier Fletcher added 13 points, while Aaron Schmidt tallied seven. Colin Moon added five points, while Greg Kriewaldt and Justin Reiter each scored one. As a team, the Truckers were 17-of-45 from the field (37.8 percent).

Both teams made 69.2 percent of their free-throw attempts, but Ripon out-rebounded Clintonville 32-25.

The Trucks lost another close game to the Fox Valley Lutheran (FVL) Foxes on Friday, Jan. 28. A wild fourth quarter saw FVL score 20 points while Clintonville netted 26, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Foxes, and Clintonville took a 66-70 defeat.

VanDaalwyk shot the lights out, tallying 41 points to lead all scorers in the game on 15-of-24 shooting (62 percent). He also pulled down seven rebounds. Fletcher added 11 points with five rebounds, while Reiter scored five points and Kriewaldt dropped in four. Moon scored three, while Joe Hauser added two.

As a team, the Truckers shot 52 percent from the field, but shot just 45.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Truckers face off against Freedom on Thursday, Feb. 3, in Clintonville at 7:15 p.m.
