Miller, Larry D.

Larry D. Miller, age 63, of Waupaca, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born in Waupaca on July 16, 1947, the son of Carl R. Miller, Sr. and Vivian (Vanaman) Miller. On October 1, 1994, he was united in marriage to Kay Hempel-Smith and she preceded him in death on April 4, 1997. Larry enjoyed snowmobiling, motor cycling, camping, hunting, and fishing. He devoted much of his time to the Waupaca Hot Rod Club, Truckers Pride, the Weyauwega-White Lake Aerator & Conservation Club, the Waupaca Jaycees, County Line Trailblazers, and the Viking Snowmobile Club. He was a past-president of the Chain O’Lakes Skiers, a member of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Association (WLEOA), and helped the WLEOA campground for 36 years. Larry worked for many years as a dispatcher for the city of Waupaca. He will be remembered by many for dancing and doing “wheelies” in his wheelchair. His survivors include three brothers: Dennis (DeAnn) of Waupaca, Jerry (Lynn) of Appleton, and Roger (Lori) of Waupaca; nieces and nephews: Sherri (Steve Steeber) Miller of Winneconne, Matt (Trish) Miller of Ogdensburg, Amanda (Joe) Niemuth of Manawa, Scott (Missy) Miller of Waupaca, Lori (Kelly) Peterman of Iola, Jason Miller of Waupaca, Katlin Miller and Cassidy Miller of Appleton, Mike (Karen) Miller and Cody Miller of Manawa; Kay’s children: Douglas (Kathy) Smith of Iola, Lori (John) Marks of Iola, and Julie (Patrick) Compton of Saxeville;sisters-in-law Mary Miller and Sue Thulien; special friends: Nancy, Bill, and Bruce; other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay; brother, Carl; niece, Denise; nephews, Corey and Randy; and mother-in-law, Louise Hempel. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dave Martin officiating. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Maple Crest Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Poy Sippi Cemetery.
