Lady Bulldogs win regular season finale

A hot start carried New London into a 56-25 win over the visiting Marinette Marines on Seniors Night.

The Bulldogs had a convincing 18-3 first quarter lead and later a 34-8 halftime lead. The third quarter was more evenly matched as the Marines outscored the Bulldogs by a small 15-14 difference but the Bulldogs still led 48-23. Defense carried the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter outscoring the Marines 8-2.

Brooke Fitzgerald and Emily Steffanus led the way with 10 points each for the Bulldogs. Steffanus also led the team with two three-point baskets. Paige Schlieve shot New London’s lone free throw as the team only had two shots from the line during the entire game.

New London finishes the regular season 19-3 overall and second place in the Bay Conference at 14-2. New London will open Tournament play Friday, March 11 at home against the Hortonville/Shawano winner.

JV Bulldogs undefeated 22-0

The Junior Varsity Lady Bulldogs had a perfect season this year going undefeated at 22-0 winning their last game 51-39 against Marinette. This year’s JV team consisted of Freshman Mickey and Lexi Roland, Gretl Steingraber and Cambria Fitzgerald, Sophomores Megan Schlieve, Sami Christian, Sami Dedering and Kansas Walbruck. Sophomore Stephanie Bult also contributed, but fought a season ending ACL injury in December.

Coach Mike Waldvogel has put up a 58-6 record in his 3 years of coaching JV. The Freshman team was able to overcome a 2-9 record to win their last 5 out of 9 games to finish 8-12. The Freshman team consisted of Amber Pethke, Lacy Harris, Mackenzie Leahy, Mikayla Hogan, Kaitlyn Dey, Hunter Tietz, Caitlin Schmidt, Courtney Olson and Amy Bigalke.
