Waupaca sweeps Wolves, beat Irish

The Waupaca Comet baseball team picked up three Eastern Valley Conference wins in two days.

Waupaca swept a doubleheader from Winneconne, 5-3 and 4-1, Friday, April 29, at Lakemen Field one day after handing Freedom a 4-3 defeat.

Broghan Cullen’s two-run home run in the fourth inning lifted the Comets over the Wolves in the first game.

Beau Ash had two of Waupaca’s six hits and Josh Houtman picked up the win on the mound.

Aaron Gooch had three hits and drove in a pair of runs in the second game as Kevin Moe got the win.

Waupaca 4, Freedom 3

Cody Houtman drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Comets had loaded the bases.

Freedom took a 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two in the second, but Waupaca tied the game with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Josh Houtman picked up the win.
