Beier, Elmer Walter

Elmer Walter Beier age 80 of Iola, passed away very peacefully, with his family at his bedside on Sunday, May 8th, 2011 at the Manawa Nursing Home in Manawa. He was born in Eureka, WI on April 29, 1931 to Elmer Arnold Beier & Doris Lucille Beier. He grew up in the Berlin, WI area. He met Doris Ione Olson of Iola and they married on Jan. 14, 1956 with whom he would share 55 years of his life. He was a master of many trades, which included a job-printer/compositor at several newspapers in the Appleton area. He then had a desire to move his family to California where he attended cosmetology school during the day & became a very proficient barber; while he worked at a newspaper at night. He loved living in Paradise California. He lived in California approx. 15 years & then returned to Iola with his family. He was a farmer and throughout the years worked at the following: Millcraft, Krause Publications, and the Iola Golf Course. He then drove semi-truck for the next few years until he officially retired in 2006 at the age of 75 yrs. Elmer’s hobbies included gardening and being a collector of many antiquated items. Elmer is survived by his loving wife Doris & three children: Bonny (Wally) Pethke of Ogdensburg, Lori (Wayne) Steingraber of Manawa, & Bruce (Chrissy) Beier of Iola. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren: Steven (Lori) Steingraber, Jeremy (Miranda) Steingraber, Matthew Steingraber, Heather (fiance-Nathan Kieffer) Steingraber, Ashley Beier, and Corin Beier; four loving Great Grandchildren: Ethan, Serenity, Ezra, and David Steingraber. Also one brother Emerson (Nora) Beier of Gainesville, VA and one sister Thelma Sprague of Jacksonville, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother -Art Beier, sister-Joy Manning, niece-Barbara Spitteland nephew-David Beier. A Memorial Service will be held at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola, on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM. The Reverend Jeffery Smiles, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
