Polley, Richard T.

Dick Polley was born May 25, 1932, and entered Eternal life with his Savior on June 23, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a 1950 graduate and multi-sport letterman of New London High. Dick proudly served his country in Korea as a member of the US Army. He also became a member of the American Legion. Dick married the love of his life, Joan Gorges on November 10, 1952. Dick worked his whole life in construction, including 30 years with Boldt Construction until his retirement. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed wintering in Florida where they made many lifelong friends. Dick lived life passionately whether at work or at leisure. He was an avid golfer and had many golf buddies. He was an intense Packer fan and also followed the Badgers. He also loved playing bridge, sheepshead and cribbage. Family was most important to Dick. He was a loving and devoted husband who was always concerned with providing Joan with the best life possible. He was an amazing Dad, doling out wisdom, love and discipline that subtly made its mark. Dick was a model big brother who always led by example. He was also a cherished and beloved uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. Everything he did, he did with dignity and honor, displaying his fruits of faith and love for his Savior. Dick was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London and donated his time as the Project Rep. of the Emanuel School Building Project.

Dick is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Susan (Steve) Carlovsky, Milwaukee; Jane Polley, Appleton; sons, Thomas (Carol) Polley, Cleveland, OH; Robert (Lori) Polley, Neenah; and William (Scarlett) Polley, New London; brothers, Dan (Rose Ann) Polley, Marietta, GA and James (Linda) Polley, New London; sisters, Jill Borman, Green Bay; Pauline (Harland) Steffen, New London and Dorothy (Joseph) Marzolf, Green Bay; brothers in-law, Melvin (June) Gorges and Clifford (Mary) Gorges. Eight grandchildren: Kristen, Courtney and Karyn Carlovsky; Michael (Christie) Polley, Amy Polley (fiance Mike), Abby (Bob) Weix, Zachariah and Madison Polley; three great grandchildren, Brittain, Miranda and Alli. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy (Scholl) Polley, brothers in-laws and sister in-laws, James Borman, and Orville & Arleen Johnson. Funeral services for Dick was held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London, the Rev. William Heiges officiated. Burial was in the Caledonia Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home on Monday, June 27, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. and also at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
