Youth Flag Football Registration Underway

The youth flag football program sponsored by the Clintonville Park and Recreation Department is beginning its 37th year of operation as registrations will begin to be accepted Monday July 18th at City Hall, 50 10th Street, 8 am-4:30 pm.

Mail registrations will also be accepted if all required information is included along with the required user fee. The information needed is: name, address, phone number, grade this fall, school attending and if they played last year and if in the same division, the team they played on.

The program user fee this year is $12 for city residents and $17 for non-residents and must be included with mail registrations. Youth in grades 2-4 this fall play in the American Division and those in grades 5-7 play in the National Division.

Depending on the number and the age of the youth who sign up for the program this season the division ages/grades may be adjusted. T

he preliminary registration deadline is 4:30 pm Friday September 2nd. Prior to this time any requests for team placement based on legitimate reasons, such as siblings, child care, carpooling, etc., will be honored to the extent possible. A second and final deadline of September 9th has also been established. However, registrations made after September 2nd require an additional $10 late fee, plus no preferred team placements will be possible.

Games will be played school weekdays after school, generally Monday through Thursday as needed and will be played at the field to be set up adjacent to the original open shelter in WA Olen Park. Games are scheduled to begin Monday September 12th.

Each participant in the program will have the opportunity to play all positions on a football team. Also, each player will be given several opportunities during each game to call his/her team’s play and execute it. The rules of the game are organized to minimize the possibility of injury; however, parents should have adequate insurance protection for their children.

At the conclusion of the season in late October or early November, an awards program will be held to which all participants and their families will be invited to attend. The Green Bay Packers 2010 highlight film will be shown, awards presented and refreshments served.

Questions should be addressed to the department at 823-7660.
