Handschke, Calvin

Calvin Handschke, Age 58, of New London, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 13, 1953 in New London, son of Norman and Joyce (Schimke) Handschke. Cal farmed with his dad and his brothers until 1990. He then worked at the Larsen Co-Op until health issues forced his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and bowling, having numerous 300 games and was the first person to roll a 300 in New London. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London.

He is survived by a daughter: Nicki Handschke and her fiance Jess Lathrop, New London; a son: Beau Handschke, New London; mother: Joyce Handschke; two brothers: Darwin (Judy) Handschke, New London; Dennis Handschke, New London; nieces and nephews: Michelle and her fiance Nathan, Dustin and Dylan. He is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Norman Handschke. The Christian Funeral for Cal will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev. Brian Hennig officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. Friends may call at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank Kathie Mares and David Linberg for all of their help during Cal’s illness, and also the staff at Cherry Meadows for their care and concern for Cal.
